One of the real gems of Birmingham is the zoo. It is amazing to me that there exists a state with so few animal rights laws that going to the zoo is always a hands on experience. The animals are literally right there in front of you. You can touch quite a few of them, even if you really don't want to.
Needless to say, we LOVE this place.
