Avery's Musings
Sitting at a red light.
A: I wish I had flying skates and a jet pack. I would fly over these trees to Costco. Jet packs are much faster than cars and airplanes.
3 going on 13
A: Mom, I am sooo hungry, I'm, like, starving to death.
M: (laughing) O.K. lets go home and have lunch.
A: Mom! Don't laugh!
M: Oh, sorry. This is serious. Would you like an apple?
A: Ooohh My, this apple is like, totally wrinkled. Totally.
Like totally Avery.

Halloween
Am I the only person on the planet that doesn't love Halloween?
First, I don't like dressing up. In fact, I remember the last time I dressed up for Halloween. I was 11 and borrowed some of my dad's camouflage last minute, but I distinctly remember not caring at all and wanting to stay home and hand out candy instead. I just can't get into it.
Second, I can't stand how the only thing on TV the week before are scary movies. Scary movies are the worst. So gross and unnecessary.
Third, any Holiday where my neighbors insist on hanging disgusting monsters all over their porches with knives and blood and all kinds of nasty stuff just rubs me the wrong way. Its just gross.
SO that said, I tried really hard to be excited for Avery. She decided she wanted to be a ballerina first, so she went to one party dressed in a tutu and leotard from the dress up box. Great. Success. No work for me.
When it was time to get ready for "Trunk or Treat" she decided to have a look through her box and uncovered some dog ears. And the cutie asks -
"Mom, do we have the stuff to make a doggie costume? I think I would like to be a doggie for this party."
Anyway, I was pretty proud of what we came up with in the 10 min. before we left. She even had a cute little tail with a bow on it in the back.
Huge success. Awesome idea Avery.

Alabama Fall
Have I ever mentioned how much I love Alabama in the fall? Not only do we have the most beautiful fall colors, but you get to pick out your pumpkin in a tank top.
79 and breezy? Yes please.

The Package
We just got a package from my wonderful sister in law, Sarah - who I love. She visited us last week here in Bham and then sent us a thank you package. I should be the one sending her a thank you package. As much as I love it here it takes a brave person to come to Bham in July. Its seriously hot.
Anyway, I left the room for about 1 min to put clothes in the dryer...nice.

5 Years!
Well five years ago today Judd and I got married. I can honestly say our wedding day was one of the best days of my life. (Thanks to my mom - I was in Brazil the entire month before the wedding!) So lets have some pics!
For some reason I love this pic.
I still think I had the most beautiful bouquet of all time. It was exactly what I wanted.
Who doesn't love to see Chris break it down.
What exactly is grandma doing in the pic? I love it.
On October 30th it will be 10 years since our first date. I think I'll write our story on that day. I think its a great one.

Back to Life
Well, we are joining the land of the living again.
After several months laying face down and moaning or hanging on to a toilet all day, we have started to resume regular activity...slowly. (Thanks Mom and Dad, Linda, and wonderful friends who have been taking care of Avery, cleaning my house, and cooking food for us. SO grateful!) Judd was working in Mobile for 6 weeks so we did try very hard to enjoy the splendor of that area.
The park next to our house over looked the bay. There was a beach below and a beautiful pier. We spent the entire month on the beach. Avery's own piece of heaven.
Avery loved the water so much she would actually fall asleep on my shoulder begging me to stay in the water instead of taking a break. She was in heaven the entire time.
The Gulf Coast
Now we are back in Bham and loving being home. We had a great forth of July eating good food and watching fireworks with friends.
All the pics of the day are of Avery and I because Judd was our photographer...he is so cute.
And in big and exciting news, baby Reese has decided to join us in Dec. She sure is a cute little thing despite the puke fest she has caused for her momma.

Coming Out of the Fog
There have been a few times in my life that I have had to face some very difficult and somewhat extended health related challenges. I am not the best at this. I have yet to figure out not only how to be grateful, but how not to be the most unpleasant person ever while in the midst of these ordeals.
However, every time I see the worst starting to pass, almost like closing a heavy door on a section of my life I don't want to reopen, I feel this very real sensation of coming out a a dark pit of fog - and it is amazing. I can get excited about things again - art is more beautiful, my goals are more attainable, my husband is more fantastic, excitement for the future returns, and I have this crazy feeling like no ones life could be any better then mine.
I sincerely hope I do not have to keep going through these lows in order to realize how wonderful life is - but I just want to say, coming out of the fog is amazing.

Mother's Day
As mothers day approaches I have been seeing an increasing amount of sappy tributes, with beautiful mothers and perfect looking children - pictures, stories, blogs and video clips with beautiful music and still shots dripping with romantic perfection.
This seriously irritates me.
Last time I checked my life is not accompanied by sappy background music and any pics I have with long flowy hair and a happy child have been extensively prepared for and posed. How about we celebrate a little bit of reality - because as it turns out that is pretty great too.
